Depth of Sorcery

Sorcery: Contested Realm (SCR) can deepen already strong connections and friendships if you let it. My wife and my kid independently mentioned that my best buddy, who got me into SCR, needs the original art Hillside Chapel to hang on his wall; the art made them think of him. “Oh, my friend would love this!” is something many have felt since collecting and/or plaring SCR.

1. Art Appreciation

I was a gamer first; for over 30 years. I never really stopped to look at the art on top of a card’s game mechanics. I do now. I’ve started drawing and painting, which was unheard of for me before.

2. Socialization

My daughter used to be shy. Regular trips to the local games store (LGS) to play in events, however, has morphed her into someone unrecognizable from her former shy self. If you meet Ev at events, she is super outgoing now; it’s kinda crazy!. Gaming SCR online in Ira’s TTS leagues provided more positive socialization!

3. Adventure

SCR can be a cause for family adventures. Taking a 20-hour road trip (round trip) with my family to SCG Baltimore to chase the Dragonlord foil set was a 2025 highlight for us! That adventure never would have happened without the general scarcity of Dragonlord and the Erik’s Curiosa’s willingness to sell it at MSRP at the major events. A perfect storm of value and gaming made the trip “worth it” from a time-and-money standpoint; a home run for our family fun!

4. Artists

SCR offers talented artists a revenue stream in an age where artificial intelligence (AI) is rabidly consuming all manner of creative employment opportunities*.

The fact that an artist can draw or paint an artist proof or alter an existing card and fetch hundreds of dollars, rightly so, is phenomenal, in an age where AI mocks something in sub-two minutes. SCR leads the way preserving and reviving real art by providing artists income for their craft.

*Editor’s Note: AI is a tool. Employers who decide to use AI at the expense of humans should hold be the target of the majority ire.

5. Creativity

SCR is a boon to the content creators, sparking creativity in deckbuilding, gameplay, and content creation! SCR has inspired so many creatives; YouTube videos of box-breaking, deckbuilding, and game theory, are in growing abundance.

6. Competition & Collecting

SCR offers competitive players with an outlet. Some want to test themselves in the arena to test their wit and strategy against other high-level players. SCR’s willingness to support competitive play with excellent prize support is impactful.

SCR offers collectors a scarce product to chase that is beautiful, and can hold value. Though not every box is a goldmine, there is plenty of beauty and value for SCR collectors to appreciate.

7. Joy

I love this game. I love what it has done for my friendships, my family adventures, and the socialization and growth it has provided my child. I love the artistic outlet and appreciation it has brought. I love having tiny treasures in the binder pages we keep! I love it all.
